The 145th edition of the Nation Song Contest was held in Sakuralia as Waloria, the winner of the previous edition, declined to host. As runner-up, Sakuralia took up the task.
The slogan "Like The Melody of Our Song" is taken from a lyric from the 2016 French Eurovision entry "J'ai cherché" by Amir. The edition itself was themed around Japanese textiles in the semifinals and the Four Guardians of Alola from Pokémon in the final.
57 of the 60 active nations competed in this edition, with Kosma, Nállanot and Vedatistan withdrawing.
Pigeon Island scored its record-breaking eighth win with the song Green Light by Lorde. Rounding out the top 6 were Emsfrynt, Serenes, Lacrea, Calypso and Roseland
