As the previous edition's winner Rahasia-Diati and runner-up Svobodnia was unable to do so, the 172nd edition of the Nation Song Contest will be hosted by Cherniya.

Blackmere, Papendink, Riya-Sampetrina, Uferbruht and Vedatistan all withdrew from this edition. Comino, Denmark of Peace and Tir an Abhainn returned from 1-edition breaks, while Oussou Empire returned to the main roster for the first time since NSC 108, replacing Zombira.

Kimmystan stormed to its first victory with the song "Echoes" by Lola Marsh. Cydoni-Gibberia, Rumia, Zaprya, Fervorosia and Yaponesia rounded out the top 6.
